Friends of the Foundation
Each year, the Dearborn Community Foundation recognizes individuals
or groups of individuals who are strong supporters of the Foundation. In
2006, DCF honored the past and present leaders of the City of Aurora,
Dearborn County and the City of Lawrenceburg for their support of the
Foundation over the years.
  
City of Aurora: In September
1997, the City of Aurora established the first endowment ever at the
Dearborn Community Foundation. The Aurora Quality of Life Improvement
Endowment Fund, a designated endowment that provides funds to improve
the quality of life for the residents of Aurora has grown to more than
$1.6 million. The fund has provided thousands and thousands of dollars
in grants that have touched the lives of residents of Aurora.
Dearborn County: The leaders
of Dearborn County decided in January 1998 that they wanted to set aside
funds for the future of the county’s residents. The county leaders
decided on a designated endowment named The Dearborn County Quality of
Life Fund. The fund’s market value now exceeds $2 million. Similar to
Aurora’s endowment, the county fund has provided thousands of dollars
toward improving the quality of life for residents of Dearborn County.
City of Lawrenceburg: In May
1998, under the leadership of then-Mayor Melvin Gabbard, the City of
Lawrenceburg established a donor-advised endowment fund named the
Lawrenceburg Youth Fund. The fund was established through the city’s
riverboat casino tax revenue sharing program. Now at nearly $1 million
the fund provides grants to non-profit organizations for youth programs
in Lawrenceburg and Dearborn.
Lawrenceburg leaders didn’t stop there. Beginning in 2002, the city
established two non-endowed programs that are administered by the
Foundation: The Lawrenceburg Educational Grant Program, which provides
scholarships for the post-secondary education of graduating seniors at
Lawrenceburg High School; and the Lawrenceburg Community Grant Program
that provides support to non-profit organizations in Dearborn County.
